Obama welcomes Senate deal on nominations

WASHINGTON (AP) ? President Barack Obama has welcomed a Senate agreement that dislodges long-stalled administration nominees. Obama says his choices for administration posts have, in his words, "waited far too long for a vote."

Obama singled out Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Sen. John McCain for special thanks for cobbling the deal.

Under the agreement, the Senate confirmed Richard Cordray as director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and Obama submitted two new names for the National Labor Relations Board. Other nominees also are to get quick action.

Obama says he hopes Congress will build on what he calls "this spirit of cooperation" to pass an overhaul in immigration and to find agreement on student loan legislation.
