Engineers Insurance Specialists
Each engineer insurance policy needs to be individually assessed so that the engineer can determine the amount of risk which the company can realistically deal with by upping or decreasing the limit of the insurance. Every single engineering company is different, and every case is different, and that?s why you need an insurance company with a difference when dealing with professional liability insurance for engineers.
When it comes to engineers insurance, it really pays to deal with professionals. Engineers professional liability insurance is something which you need to really understand in order to get the best deal, so it?s always best to only deal with a company that has lots of experience in this specialist field.
Whether you?re a new firm of engineers or have been trading for many years, from the very smallest to the very largest multi national firms, engineer insurance is a tricky and specialist area. They do say that the job of engineer is in many ways more responsible than even the job of a doctor (with more lives at risk) so it?s vitally important to have adequate engineer liability insurance. It really isn?t worth cutting corners on this important aspect of your business, tod?s, you need to find a firm of professionals who can provide your business with protection, risk management and also the continuing education which is essential for you to conduct your business with peace of mind.
There are firms out there who do specialize in professional liability insurance for engineers, and have done so for many years. When you?re dealing with something as important and ?job specific? then it really does pay to consult with experts.
Whilst it?s important to have the right coverage, there really is no need to overpay, nobody likes to pay more than they need to, right? That?s why you need to find a professional firm with many years experience, and trust that they will provide. Don?t trust to chance, trust the experts who really know what they?re talking about and will be able to offer real assistance whenever you need it. Whether it?s small firm application or large firm application, leave it to the experts.
Engineering is a tricky and complex business, which means that the business of engineers insurance is equally tricky and complex. There is nothing worse for a firm of engineers than to find themselves in the middle of an expensive litigation net because of alleged mistakes made in the engineering design of a project, or the omission of some promised elements in the project. If this happens, (and inevitably it will to some extent) then you need to know that you have professionals on your side that can help you to ride the storm.
One of the main benefits of adequate professional liability insurance for engineers is that they are obliged to defend their client in case of an expensive lawsuit ? how about that for peace of mind? You really do need to know that you?ve covered all eventualities, when dealing with engineers professional liability insurance.

Iran was under diplomatic pressure on Friday after a UN watchdog report said it had expanded its nuclear programme and was hampering inspections, and UN chief Ban Ki-moon in Tehran called on it to release political prisoners.
Iranian officials responded by denying some of the charges in the International Atomic Energy Agency report, which they said was timed to steal the spotlight from a Non-Aligned Movement summit they were hosting.
Ban's appeal for the release of "opposition leaders, human rights defenders, journalists and social activists," made in a speech to an Iranian diplomatic college on Thursday, went without any immediate official response from Tehran.
Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei opened the two-day NAM summit with a speech on Thursday railing against the United States, Israel and the UN Security Council, which are at the forefront of the pressure directed at his country.
He said Iran would "never" cease its nuclear energy activities, regardless of UN and Western sanctions, and insisted that the programme was not aimed at developing nuclear weapons, whose use he called an "unforgiveable sin."
The International Atomic Energy Agency report released late on Thursday -- in the middle of the Tehran summit -- said Iran had doubled its capacity to enrich uranium at its underground Fordo nuclear facility by installing, but not yet switching on, more than 1,000 more centrifuges.
It also said that UN inspectors wanting to see part of a military base in Parchin, outside Tehran, which is suspected of hosting tests of explosives that could be used in a nuclear warhead, had been "significantly hampered" by months of refused access.
It said there had also been what looked like intensive scrubbing and scraping at the facility, and the use of covers to shield the site from satellite cameras.
Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi rejected the Parchin allegations, telling the ISNA news agency they had "no technical basis" and that "one cannot clean a site" of nuclear work.
A member of the Iranian parliament's national security and foreign policy committee, Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, said the timing of the report was "politically motivated" with the aim of "undermining the summit."
Iran's uranium enrichment, and its Fordo bunker, were two of the key points raised in negotiations this year by the P5+1 -- the UN Security Council's five permanent members plus Germany -- that have all but stalled.
EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, representing the P5+1, is to talk with Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili "in the coming days," Ashton's spokesman said on Thursday.
Iranian officials have previously emphasised that Parchin is an off-limits military base and that the IAEA's focus on it is overblown and based on "false" Western intelligence.
Ban, in his speech at the Iranian diplomats' college, expanded on criticism of Iran's nuclear stand that he had delivered in meetings with Khamenei and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and at the opening of the summit.
He urged Iran to comply with the IAEA and with UN resolutions on the issue, stressing the "cost of Iran's current trajectory" and saying that "any country at odds with the international community... finds itself isolated from the thrust of common progress."
During his visit, he warned that the international "war of words" over the nuclear showdown risked degenerating into "a war of violence," implicitly raising Israeli and US threats to bomb Iran's nuclear facilities if negotiations and sanctions fail to make Tehran change course.
"The window of opportunity to resolve this remains open... but it will not remain open indefinitely," White House spokesman Jay Carney said on Thursday.

"Food and drink is a growth industry and, by 2017, more than 137,000 new recruits will be needed to fill the sector's vacancies," a spokesperson for Focus Management said. "With greater awareness of these opportunities, school and university leavers can begin to train for roles in this industry and enjoy long, rewarding careers. Likewise, people with key skills in struggling sectors may be looking at making a sideways switch into food and drink."
The latest unemployment figures, which relate to April to June, reveal that there are 2.56 million people without jobs in the UK, 46,000 less than the previous quarter and the lowest in over a year.
However, while the number is heading in the right direction, there remains a number of concerning trends that the Government is keen to address. Chief among them is the difficulty for young people (16- to 24-year-olds)
According the TUC, youth unemployment is now at "crisis levels" with one in five currently out of work. The latest figures reveal there are more than 500,000 young people who have been claiming jobseekers allowance for over six months.
Focus Management has worked with some of the UK's biggest and most reputable food companies since 1990, helping them to identify the best talent in the sector. Its vast experience and expertise means it is well-established as the number one choice for candidates and employers alike.

Rent it Right
Janet Portman
Inman News?
Q: I have a policy of always talking to an applicant's current landlord. But an applicant whom I'll call Sue has asked me not to call her landlord. She is afraid that if the owner learns she is looking, he will terminate her tenancy. Sue says she's leaving because this guy is a terrible landlord. I don't want to make things worse for her -- what if I call, he terminates, and I don't end up renting to Sue? But I hesitate to not check it out -- what if she's putting me on? Any suggestions? --Weidon B.
A: You're in a tricky spot. Many landlords will do just as Sue fears, apart from whether they are bad landlords or not. Upon learning that a tenant is about to leave, they'll terminate, especially if the rental market is seasonal and they want to take advantage of a good window.
For example, many rentals turn over during the summer, especially before school starts. A landlord will have an easier time renting an apartment in July than in October, and certainly November or December. Learning in May that a tenant is looking elsewhere, a landlord might be tempted to terminate in order to have a vacancy in the summer.
Tenants may also fear a negative, unjustified reference, which is apparently Sue's fear as well. Sue may have insisted on needed repairs and earned the landlord's unfair ire.
As sympathetic as you may be to Sue's situation, you should not relax your practices. You can't ignore the possibility that the negative reference may in fact be justified -- how do you know that it's the landlord who is the problem, not Sue?
One way to handle this situation is to tell Sue that you won't contact the landlord right away. Take her application, run a credit report, verify her employment, and most importantly, speak with at least one prior landlord. A landlord who no longer rents to Sue has no reason to say anything other than the truth (there's no temptation to give a falsely glowing report of a bad tenant in order to help that tenant move out as soon as possible). Then, consider all that you've learned from multiple sources: If they all paint a picture of a good, stable tenant, you should proceed, but only if you are pretty sure you'll extend an offer to Sue unless you learn something that justifies a rejection.
Now, call the current landlord. You may not, however, be able to make confident conclusions based on his answers. Suppose he says, "Well, Sue was late with the rent at least half the time, she grouses about the pickiest things, and her neighbors complain about noise a lot." If this report is completely at odds with everything else you've learned about Sue (from past landlords and her bill-paying history on her credit report), you may be justified in concluding that this landlord has it in for Sue, and you may want to disregard his words.
On the other hand, you may be told, "I have nothing to say about Sue." This response may be the stock answer from someone who is overly worried about lawsuits from former tenants, which means you can't rely on it one way or the other. And if you're told, "Sue is a great tenant!" consider that the landlord is either being very cagy (giving a false positive in order to get rid of Sue) or may be telling the truth (but why did Sue describe him as terrible?).
Confused? Alas, there's no formula for evaluating these conversations. The best you can do is to do a thorough screening and gather information from multiple sources. Applicants' true colors will emerge the more you draw from independent quarters. In the end, you may have to simply remove the current landlord from the picture.
Q: We've been renting a house for two years, and we're moving out at the end of the lease, disgusted. The landlord never fixed anything, ignored our requests, and even tried to raise the rent. Rentals are hard to come by here, and we want to make sure the next tenant doesn't get stuck with these problems. What can we do to make that happen? --Randall J.
A: When it comes to screening, landlords have by far the most sophisticated system. They ask for detailed information in a rental application, call past landlords and employers, and consult a credit report. Many also perform some level of criminal background screening. If an applicant has been chronically late with the rent, left past rentals in shambles, or has a worrisome income-to-debt ratio, they'll learn of it and can confidently reject applicants for those reasons.
Tenants have a much less developed set of tools that they can use to learn about the business practices of their would-be landlords. They can go to the local courthouse (or go online, in some places) to see whether this owner is a regular visitor in court. Frequent appearances as a defendant in small claims means tenants suing over deposits; going to court as a plaintiff may mean eviction cases. Either way, not a good sign.
Tenants can also visit the property on their own and try to speak with current residents (or the ones moving out) and ask what it's like to live in this rental. Candid answers from people who have no reason to speak untruthfully are the best source of information. Applicants for your rental can take these steps on their own.
One additional avenue might prove useful. If the repair problems you speak of amounted to housing code or other legal violations, and if you reported these to the appropriate agencies, they will have a record of these reports. Or, if your town has a licensing program for landlords, it may have a complaint component -- if you utilized it, again, there's a public record.
Hopefully, people who apply to live in the house you're leaving will take the time and energy that's required to learn about the property. If they do -- certainly if they speak with you -- they will have their eyes opened. But you want something more -- to "make sure" that the next set of residents doesn't suffer as you did. Short of walking the sidewalk with a sign explaining why someone shouldn't rent here, there's not much you can do. You may want to avail yourself of the many "bad landlord" websites that aim to expose poor practices such as those you describe, but the value of these sites is open to doubt. No one checks the veracity of the tenants' complaints, and many landlords will tell you that they are full of exaggerated, even false reports, written to get back at landlords who run tight ships.

Two Indiana teenagers who fled their homes in a borrowed Mercedes to start "new lives" at an unknown destination were found safe nearly 1,300 miles from home.
The parents of Jordan Webb, 16, and Levi "David" Briggs, 15, confirmed to ABC News affiliate WRTV that the boys were found in Loma, Colo., today, where they were staying at the home of a friend they had met at camp. The boys traveled more than 1,000 miles after leaving their homes in Avon, Ind., on Saturday morning.
"This is amazing news and we are so thankful for everyone that has helped!" read a post on a Facebook page set up by the boys' families. "We could not have done this without the help of family/friends and social media! This is the biggest relief of our lives."
The boys sparked a frantic search by family members and Avon police after leaving notes for their parents Saturday saying they were "sorry" and "starting new lives," taking off in a Mercedes Benz for an unknown destination.
Police said the boys were last seen by their parents about 1 a.m. Saturday driving Webb's father's 2006 black Mercedes C350 with Indiana license plate 32R14, according to WRTV. Neither boy has a driver's license.
Police issued an alert in a nationwide database and family members created a Facebook and Twitter page dedicated to finding the teens. On the page, they posted information saying the boys might be headed to Colorado or New York City with "plans of changing their identities."
The boys "ditched" their cell phones and shut down their own Facebook accounts, according to their parents.
Paul Briggs, the father of David, wrote an impassioned plea for his son to come home and work things out with his parents.
"Dear David, Our world is upside down without you. We're not getting much sleep because we're always thinking about you. Come home. We'll get through whatever we have to, to get you back on track with a good future. You are worth it. I love you."
According to Avon Police Chief Jack Miller, the police department followed leads of possible sightings and interviewed friends of the boys.
"One of the unique things about this is that these kids come from good homes with loving parents, they mention in their notes that they love their parents, they were good in school, popular, there were no red flags," Miller said. "The boys each left a note and the notes basically said the same thing, that they were going to take this opportunity to strike out on their own."
Both families released statements in the wake of the boys' disappearance, though they did not elaborate on why Webb or Briggs may have decided to flee their homes and families.
"Jordan is loved and missed by his family and friends. We cannot imagine life without our son, and we will not stop looking until he's home safe, no matter how long it takes," the Webbs said.
"We pray for their safety and well-being," said the Briggs family. "We want you back, David, and want to fight side-by-side for your future. We ask for our friends' prayers and any information that will help us provide for David and Jordan's safety, well-being and safe return."
Word of the search for the two Indiana boys spread virally, as the Twitter hashtag "#FindJordanandDavid" sparked hundreds of tweets from supporters on the lookout for the young men.

People consider the Apple Store experience the gold standard--or at least the brushed aluminum standard--of electronics retail. Companies from AT&T to Microsoft have tried to replicate the Apple Store experience, then refused to admit that they were trying to replicate the Apple Store experience. The backbone of the store is the Genius Bar, where Apple cultists customers seek repairs, warranty replacements, and the wise counsel of the local council of Geniuses. What goes into the formation of a Genius? Gizmodo got hold of an Apple Store training workbook, and decided to tell the world.
The subject of most lessons? Managing people, not necessarily diagnosing iPhones. "The manual could easily serve as the Humanity 101 textbook for a robot university," writes Sam Biddle. Only robots don't need to be taught how to spread "Gadget Joy" to humans.
Like all training manuals, this material is probably read once and largely forgotten, but says a lot about how Geniuses and sales staff are to manage the expectations of customers: allowing them to feel empowered, but guiding their expectations.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ? Warning: This is a story about online cat videos. If you're among the seemingly tiny minority of the general population not interested in watching a 1-minute clip of a cat in a T-shirt pounding on a keyboard, then move along.
For everyone else, a new measure of respectability is looming for an Internet pleasure that is both massively popular and, for some people, a bit embarrassing. The Walker Art Center, a well-regarded museum of modern art in Minneapolis, on Thursday is presenting its first "Internet Cat Video Film Festival" to showcase the best in filmed feline hijinks.
With about 70 videos over 60 minutes, the Walker is mounting a social experiment as much as a film festival. At issue is whether cat video lovers used to gorging on the clips in the privacy of their homes will do so in public ? an online community of fellow aficionados interacting face to face for the first time.
"It is a cultural phenomenon that raises some interesting questions," said Katie Hill, the Walker program associate who first suggested the festival.
But Hill, a self-described "art historian and cat lady," was quick to add: "I'm not a behavioral psychologist, I'm not a sociologist. I just think they're funny and cute, and I think a lot of other people do too."
The numbers bear it out. Some of the classics of the form have racked up tens of millions of YouTube page views. The aforementioned "Keyboard Cat" posted 26.3 million page views since it was posted in 2007. A 30-second clip titled "Very Angry Cat" ? can you guess the plot? ? has 78.5 million page views since 2006.
"Some you just watch over and over and over again," said Angie Bailey, a cat blogger and owner from Chisago City, Minn., covering the film festival for the website Catster.com. "When you want to laugh and feel good it's sort of an escape from what happens in the real world."
Walker programmers got about 10,000 submissions for the festival after initially expecting several hundred. They whittled that down to the 70 videos to be shown on an outdoor screen on the museum's grounds.
Afterward, festivalgoers will be able to vote online for a "Best in Show" award. In addition, the Walker programmers picked a "Golden Kitty Award" to be bestowed at the end of the night.
"The Walker has advised, if you bring your cat put it on a leash," said Josh Feist, a Minneapolis arts administrator who planned to take his cat, Pickles, to the show. "It could be potentially crazy if there are hundreds of people who bring their cats. It will be interesting to see what develops."
Get the video cameras ready.

It?s that time of year when football fans everywhere cheer on their favorite teams. They celebrate and savor the victories for days and bemoan the losses for even longer.
When their team is winning you?ll hear them talk in terms of ?we? ? as in ?We just can?t be stopped!? and ?We?re #1!?. But when their team is losing, you?ll often hear the terms change to ?they? ? as in ?They just can?t hang on to the ball!? and ?They sure played lousy.?
Of course, this happens in a lot of competitive games as well.
As we wrote about recently, our family thoroughly enjoyed watching the 2012 Olympics together. Watching exceptional athletes compete on the world stage was a lot of fun.
With kids going back to school, it?s also the time of year when many youth sports teams are back in action. Our kids love playing soccer (football) and so do I. I still play on an indoor soccer league and have a lot of fun. I?ve also loved coaching youth soccer for about 10 years now.
But one thing that continues to amaze me ? and we read about it too frequently ? are the extreme instances of hyper-competitive parents and fans that get into fights on the sidelines. It just baffles us.
Even in our adult indoor soccer game last night, a player on the other team stormed off the field cursing up a storm as soon as our team scored a go-ahead goal with a few minutes left in the game. All these thoughts coming together have made me wonder how competitive I am.
My wife says I?m a competitive person and that?s one reason why I like playing board games. To some degree I think she has a point. I love the challenge and battle of wits. And I always like to do my best.
However, I also know that my level of competitiveness has diminished with age. It?s all a part of being able to put things in their proper place. And that comes a lot easier with more life experience.
We all know stories of kids throwing toys, flipping boards, and stomping around when things don?t go their way. They haven?t had as many life experiences yet to put things in perspective. But even with that in mind, not all kids are the same and some have a tougher time learning this important lesson*.
It?s usually more apparent in kids that are very competitive. But being competitive isn?t necessarily a bad thing. Just look at those Olympic athletes.
Our job as parents is to teach our kids that even if they?re competitive, they can still be a good sport. They can still learn to lose gracefully (and win gracefully as well).
And the best teacher is our example ? whether it be from the sidelines or around the family board game table. Go kids!
And go BYU Cougars!
* The sad stories are when adults haven?t learned these important lessons yet.

MOSCOW (AP) ? Michael Jackson slept there. Vladimir Lenin harangued Bolsheviks there. Over the past century, the Hotel Metropol has seen the extremes of Russian life, from austere revolutionary fervor to flashy pop indulgence.
Now, at a starting price of 8.7 billion rubles ($272 million), the hotel is up for sale Thursday, auctioned off by the Moscow city government as part of its privatization program. That's expected to go higher ? in steps of 435 million rubles ($13.6 million) ? and where it will stop is anybody's guess.
"It's hard to tell what's justified" as a final price, said Tatiana Tikova, the director of the valuation department at the Colliers real estate brokerage in Moscow.
Officials haven't released the names of the prospective bidders, but news reports say Azimut and Khorston, two major Russian hotel chains, are expected to be among them.
Moscow, with a perpetual shortage of hotel rooms and a business culture that adores ostentation, is an attractive market for high-end hoteliers and the Metropol offers plenty of curb-flash.
Situated catty-corner from the Bolshoi Theater and an easy stroll from Red Square, the location is prime for any guest who wants to feel in the very center of the city's heaving action.
It's one of Moscow's most distinctive buildings as well, a cheery Art Nouveau confection in a city where buildings mostly seem to glower. Although at six stories it's one of the city center's more low-rise structures, it stands out with sinuous curves, friezes of women en deshabille and bands of brightly colored majolica tiles. Several elaborate mosaics top the building, the most noted being Mikhail Vrubel's "Princess of Dreams," showing a dying knight sailing through a crashing sea to a vision of his beloved.
Then, there's the historical cachet. When it opened in 1901, it was a paragon of Russians' growing prosperity and confidence, but 17 years later took on a far different role. When Bolsheviks decided to move their government from St. Petersburg to Moscow, the hotel was appropriated to become the Second House of the Soviets.
A large plaque on the exterior notes that in 1918-19, Lenin "many times gave reports and speeches at sessions and party congresses" in the hotel and chatted there with members of the "prodotryad," armed squads of workers who forcefully appropriated food from the bourgeoisie. Another plaque commemorates a 1921 meeting in the hotel that resulted in a friendship agreement with Mongolia.
In the chaos of World War II, the Metropol became home and office for almost all the foreign journalists allowed to work in the USSR. "Gloomy and cavernous, Mother Metropol was like a college fraternity house" during that time, Whitman Bassow wrote in his book "The Moscow Correspondents."
The auction winner will get all that, but won't get the hotel's elaborate array of antique furnishings and paintings. How much of that might be available for separate purchase is unclear. Natalya Bocharova, head of the city property department, said this month that an array of objects from the hotel will be turned over to museums.
The furnishings are a major part of the hotel's appeal. Jackson, during a 1993 stay, reportedly was so enamored with a lamp featuring a bear figure that he agitated unsuccessfully to buy it.
Despite its storied history and reputation, hotel review websites suggest the Metropol's rooms often are in need of spiffing up. Tikova said privatization should ensure the hotel gets an upgrade.
"It allows for more efficient management, it allows timely renovations," she said.

UCLA called an audible eight months ago when it hired Jim Mora as the 17th head coach in school history. Mora represented a new direction for a program that desperately needed a change in culture. He hit the ground running, hiring coaches and pounding the recruiting trail, all the while injecting a business-like attitude.
Mora's revamped coaching staff called for a new philosophy in scoring and defending. The personnel moves from spring camp carried into fall camp, and Mora further distanced himself from predecessor Rick Neuheisel by naming a redshirt freshman as the starting quarterback.
In short, it's out with the old and in with the new.
UCLA unveils its new look today against Rice in Houston, where Mora will make his college head coaching debut after 25 years in the NFL.
He's more than ready. He's anxious.
"I'm anxious like I'm always anxious," Mora said. "It's going to be my first time going out there in a UCLA shirt and hat in a competitive environment."
Rice (4-8 last year) opens at home for the first time since 2008, and it's the Owls' first game on a weekday since 1983. UCLA is 4-0 all-time against Rice.
They last met in 2006 at the Rose Bowl and the Bruins won 26-16.
UCLA, opening on the road for the third consecutive season, is expected to battle inclement weather in Houston with temperatures reaching a high of 96 with 57percent humidity and a 50percent chance of rain and scattered thunderstorms.
The heat and humidity is nothing new for UCLA after twoweeks of training in triple-digit temperatures in San Bernardino.UCLA's biggest challenge, however, will come in executing a whole new playbook.
Bruins fans grew frustrated with an offense that ranked 116th in the nation in 2010. A change last year to the Pistol didn't fare much better as UCLA's passing attack ranked 81st behind two injury-prone quarterbacks in Kevin Prince and Richard Brehaut. The Pistol misfired and it showed on the scoreboard - the Bruins ranked 88th in points en route to a 6-8 season.
Dubbed the savior, freshman quarterback Brett Hundley has the intangibles rarely seen these days in Westwood. He brings elusiveness and good arm strength.
His ability to extend plays with his legs will only help offset the challenges that come with an inconsistent offensive line.
Young nerves may be an early issue for Hundley who hasn't played a game since the high school playoffs in 2010. But Hundley is in a position that not many young quarterbacks find themselves in, he can turn to Prince and Brehaut, both seniors, for advice on how to handle the pressure.
"Brett Hundley is a young man who can really throw the ball well and runs extremely well and makes great decisions," said Rice coach David Bailiff, entering his sixth season at the helm. "They have a whole lot of people on that team who have starts, but they have a lot of lettermen who have extensive playing time and we know it's a big challenge for us."
There's reason to believe Hundley could thrive in a spread offense, and he has plenty of weapons at his disposal. Jerry Johnson, Shaquelle Evans and Devin Lucien appear to be playmakers at receiver. Tight end Joseph Fauria (6-foot-8) will help create countless mismatches while flanker Steven Manfro adds a wrinkle to an offense that looks to thrive in a fast tempo.
Noel Mazzone is in his first season with the Bruins as offensive coordinator. He brings a wealth of experience and the success to prove it. While at Arizona State, Mazzone last year led the Sun Devils to a top-10 passing offense that averaged 316 yards per game. Arizona State ranked 28th in points, averaging 33.2 points.
UCLA's ground production could wreak havoc against an undersized Rice defensive line. Johnathan Franklin, who is 1,062 yards away from becoming the school's all-time rushing leader, leads a stable of running backs. Damien Thigpen showed all camp he's finally healthy. He brings speed, while Jordon James brings a physical presence.
Hundley could have his hands full with a strong Rice secondary, led by linebacker Cameron Nwosu and cornerback Bryce Callahan, who as a freshman recorded a team-high six interceptions and was named a freshman All-America.
Rice quarterback Tyler McHargue has a big target with 6-5 senior tight end Luke Wilson, but UCLA's 3-4 defense under Lou Spanos could be a challenge for the Owls, who are without their top rushing and receiving threats. Turner Petersen will take the bulk of the carries in the backfield and Vance McDonald will be McHargue's primary target.
Sam McGuffie could be another threat the Bruins have to worry about. He battled injuries last year but showed strong signs in 2010 he can be a big threat after leading the team in receptions (39) and rushing (833 yards).
UCLA's Sheldon Price and Aaron Hester provide proven leadership at corner while Jordan Zumwalt, Eric Kendricks and Anthony Barr bring significant size and strength at linebacker.
You can expect UCLA's Datone Jones, Cassius Marsh, Owamagbe Odighizuwa and even Ellis McCarthy to rotate up front defensively with Seali'i Epenesa manning the nose tackle spot.
Rice will have yet another young offensive line to provide pocket protection. Sophomore guard Drew Carroll is the most experienced of the group with 10 starts last season. Nate Richards, a junior college transfer, starts at center and redshirt freshman Caleb Williams is at tackle.
UCLA experienced its own instability on the line during camp but has seen it bolstered in just the last few days with the return of Jeff Baca and Greg Capella, both of whom returned to the field in the final week after suffering concussions early in fall camp.
Ready or not, the lights come on.
"These guys guys haven't been in a competitive environment in over eight months since the bowl game," Mora said. "I'm more than anything excited watching our guys do what they do, which is play football."
