The Cincinnati Symphony has announced four new musician appointments to fill recently vacated chairs.
Leah Arsenault, who was previously second flute with the Louisville Orchestra, has won the role of acting associate principal flute. The orchestra?s current associate principal flutist, Jasmine Choi, has accepted the position of Principal Flute for the Vienna Symphony, and is taking a one-year leave of absence this season.
Acting second flute will be Amy Taylor, who previously played with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic.
And violinist Janet Carpenter, who is working on her master?s degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music, will be stepping into the role of acting first assistant concertmaster, while Eric Bates takes a one-year leave of absence from that chair, moving into the rotating first violin section.
Rebecca Barnes is welcomed into the CSO?s viola section. She has been working on her artist diploma at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Both Barnes and Carpenter are alumni of the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra.
In addition, the orchestra is holding auditions for acting assistant principal horn this fall. Robert Johnson, who served in that role, has accepted a post with the Houston Symphony.
