This temporary intermittent hourly appointment may be up to six months. This position may or may not be extended and will remain a temporary position if extended.

Organizational Description:
The University Controller/Accounting Services Office is dedicated to facilitating the primary mission of the University by seeking the most cost-effective methods of delivering services while continuing to implement improvement of services to students, faculty, staff and all other customers.

Overview:
Under general direction of the Student Financial Services Manager, the incumbent is responsible for reviewing and performing cashiering functions, performing various receptionist and general office duties; reviewing and analyzing student accounts; and performing various student accounting functions that include refunds, disbursements and other related duties as assigned.

Position Summary:
Responsibilities include, good friendly customer service skills, answer multiple phone lines, balance cash drawer daily, communicate effectively orally and written, create spreadsheets and reports using electronic spreadsheets, word processors and email, disburse payroll checks to students, faculty and staff, file, follow oral and written procedures, maintain a professional-like attitude at all times while on duty, maintain a safe and clean work environment, maintain regular attendance (when scheduled), make knowledgeable decisions on confidential matters relating to student accounts and payroll disbursement issues, monitoring lines when needed, must be eligible to qualify for a fidelity bond, operate a bulk currency scanner and other machinery, perform arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy, perform reconciliations, prepare daily bank deposits, provide information to students, faculty and staff, receipt payments using a computerized receipting system, type, use a personal computer, work effectively with students, faculty, staff and the general public from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, work independently and in a team environment, work overtime during peak periods, work under pressure with frequent interruptions and perform other related duties as may be required or directed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Some knowledge of general accounting principals
  • Working knowledge of arithmetic and general office methods, practices and procedures
  • Working knowledge of cash receipting functions and cash auditing procedures
  • Must possess typing/data entry skills sufficient to perform the duties of the position
  • Must possess friendly, courteous customer service skills
Ability to:
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Create spreadsheets and reports using Excel, word processors and email
  • Perform cashiering and accounting reconciliation
Education and Experience:
  • One year of experience in cashiering work, with general office work
Specialized Skills:
  • Must be eligible to qualify for a fidelity bond
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft and/or CASHNet
  • Knowledge of standard office systems and proficient in the use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Preferred Skills:
One year of recent accounting experience demonstrating general knowledge of basic accounting principles.
